Museum Hosts
If you’re passionate about sharing stories about Malcolm Island with others, we’d love to meet you! As a host your insider knowledge and storytelling will bring the self-guided exhibits to life for visitors. This is a great role for someone who is curious, patient, and has a sprinkle of humor. Even if you are new to the island, your story is of interest to our visitors and you’ll learn about the communities’ history by spending time in the museum.
Archival and Collections Work
This involves cataloging and accessioning artifacts and archival material in the museum’s collection. If you have a keen eye for detail and a passion for organization, you’re the perfect candidate. Your efforts will ensure that our community’s belongings are accurately documented and accessible for generations to come.
Exhibition Support
As an exhibition support volunteer, you’ll help bring our artistic vision to life, from installation to deinstallation. This is a hands-on position that may involve ladders, writing and printing labels, and hanging artwork.
Event Assistance
Join our event support team and be part of the action. We often host special events and exhibit receptions, and could use help with planning, setup and take down.
Marketing and Promotion
Even though we are a small community, it can be a challenge to make sure everyone knows there is an event happening. If you have a knack for spreading the word, are social media savvy, or have some spare time to put flyers up around town, let’s chat!
Research and Writing
Become a vital part of our research and writing team. If you’re passionate about storytelling, research, or content creation, reach out! There’s opportunities to research an artifact or identify people in a photograph. This is a great position for someone who wants to improve their writing and editing skills.
It’s part of life here. Museum hasn’t always been here but the artefacts and stories have. There are wonderful interviews in the books, especially when I know the people when they were older. The changes they’ve seen. It’s such a unique history. What if you didn’t grow up here: Good place to learn the background of their newfound home. There’s no better place to do it. Artefacts, writings, movies, photos. The people you volunteer with are normal everyday people. Easy way to contribute, especially the older people. Sit on their backsides and tell stories.
