Retiring the “Sneakernet” to Protect Our Shared History
For more than 50 years, the Sointula Museum & Historical Society has been built on community support. Volunteers have carefully recorded, preserved, and shared our history—from handwritten ledgers in the early days to today’s digital archives.

But right now, our digital history is still travelling from place to place.

The Challenge: History on the Move
Because the Museum does not have a reliable high-speed internet connection, our digital files cannot be stored in one central location. Our files travel via “Sneakernet”—on USB sticks and personal laptops. One lost drive could mean losing years of stories. Help us bring our history home by becoming a Connecting Champion.

The Goal: A Permanent Digital Home
With your support, we can install a dedicated high-speed connection at the Museum and:

• Bring the archive together in one secure, professional system
• Protect our collections with automatic backups
• Share Sointula’s story worldwide, responding to research requests in minutes instead of days
• Work more efficiently, allowing volunteers to focus on preservation and community programs
