Piano Evening Entertainment

The piano evening, which the hard-working youth of the KK organized on Saturday, was a splendid proof of the spirit that prevails among the KK members. Since the opponents carefully stayed away from the occasion, there was familial harmony and the atmosphere was truly enthused. Matti Kurikka spoke of the mistake that has been made by keeping women away from the leadership of common issues and proved that the success of the KK will depend on keeping the woman at the side of the man, equal with him in every way. Tilta Anderson held a speech about the calling of women to the service of new ideas, a speech that has never been heard here before. Ellen McKela sang “Oh Malcolm Island, Sointula” in a touching and emotional way.

After this, the plays “On Puijo” and “On the Ridge of Hardanger” were performed. Our young group of actors proved to have made amazing progress. With the demands of an amateur play in mind, the performance was absolutely fantastic. Since all lottery tickets were not sold, the raffling of the bicycle was postponed to next Sunday. The evening brought $39.75 to the KK piano fund.

Our congenial spirits in Extension have taken up strong measures to stop the funds of the KK from becoming too low. Since money is at the moment desperately needed in many places, like

seed-corn in the spring, we should all be thankful in our hearts to those, who are paying their shares as fast as possible. Just think, dear brothers and sisters, what a difference it is to have a barrel of corn in the spring than in the autumn. The same difference as with our share money now and in a half a year. We trust that the members of our great family will understand this elsewhere as well.

The tour that Matti Kurikka was about to make to the western parts of the United States will be cancelled. Numerous issues of the KK itself have now grown so big, that they require the full attention of their servant. As we thank the congenial spirits, who went through trouble to organize this tour, we urge them to spread the Aika-newspaper with the same vigour among the dark ranks of our citizens.
