FLORA, is about the Island’s unique plant life: its diversity, beauty and uses. On view for the month of august the exhibition showcases work from M. Tree, Betty Carlson, Jan Rosgen, Tracey Buker, Chris Hurst, Sandy Wiggins, Kathleen Blohm, Yolana Mortensen, and Sheila Roote. Throughout the month we’ll be chatting with each artist participating in our latest summer exhibition.

Below are a few words from M. Tree about one of her submissions:

What inspired your piece for this month:

This wall hanging is created from a picture I took of a bog orchid I saw while working in a clear cut on island here. Wild orchids feel rare and special to run into, and I wasn’t expecting to find any locally.

Tell us about the materials you are working with:
This hanging was created from reclaimed fabrics, beads and vintage embroidery floss. Any textile artist tends to accumulate a stash of scraps for projects.

Thanks M. Tree!
