Donna Johansen – June Artist Spotlight

Oceana is on view from June 1st to 30th, showcasing works from nine Malcolm Island artists, each exploring the ocean’s beauty, its inhabitants, and the intricate relationship between the sea and our island community. Throughout the month we’ll be chatting with each artist participating in our latest summer exhibition.

Below is our first a rapid fire Q&A with Donna of Sun Chaser Studio.

What prompted you to start creating art?

I am a visual thinker, making my ideas 3-dimensional makes me happy.

What were the inspirations for your art piece?
As i live near the ocean, many ideas of the mass of it and the life within it give me ideas.

Can you tell us about the materials you worked with?
I work with coloured glass, copper foil and lead/tin to hold it together.

What’s your favourite style of work?
I enjoy art deco and the natural lines of nature.

What would you say to an aspiring artist?
Learn, create and enjoy.

Thanks Donna!
