BC Heritage Week runs February 16–22, 2026, and the provincial theme “Stir the Pot” invites communities across British Columbia to explore how food connects us to our heritage, our families, and one another. Food is more than sustenance — it carries memory, identity, and tradition from one generation to the next.

At the Sointula Museum, we’re bringing that theme to life through Finnish Feasting — a series of food-focused events and partnerships that celebrate the culinary traditions woven into our community since its founding in 1901. From shared coffee tables to community suppers, food has always played a central role in Sointula’s story.

Throughout Heritage Week, the Museum is coordinating and supporting several Finnish food experiences around the community:

• Finnish treats at the weekly Seniors Coffee Meeting hosted by the Sointula Senior Association
• A special Finnish lunch in partnership with Better at Home & the Community Connector
• A display of Finnish cookbooks highlighting historic and contemporary recipes
• Local cafés featuring traditional favourites like hernekeitto (pea soup) and pulla-inspired desserts

These events reflect the spirit of “Stir the Pot” — not only cooking and baking, but gathering, sharing, and keeping traditions alive.

We also invite you to read a new article by Sointula Museum Manager Tammy and Archives Manager Kathy, published in The Source. Their piece explores how BC Heritage Week’s theme resonates in Sointula and how food continues to connect our past and present.

We hope you’ll join us in stirring the pot this Heritage Week — whether by sharing a meal, trying a new recipe, or reflecting on the traditions that shape our community.
