Sandy Wiggins – August Artist Spotlight

FLORA, is about the Island’s unique plant life: its diversity, beauty and uses. On view for the month of august the exhibition showcases work from M. Tree, Betty Carlson, Jan Rosgen, Tracey Buker, Chris Hurst, Sandy Wiggins, Kathleen Blohm, Yolana Mortensen, and Sheila Roote. Throughout the month we’ll be chatting with each artist participating in our latest summer exhibition.

Below is our first a rapid fire Q&A with Sandy!

What prompted you to start creating art?

After appreciating art for years in galleries and shows I wanted to try my own hand at it.

What were the inspirations for your art piece?
I love flowers! Locally I was inspired by the bouquets of the Sointula Community Gardens, Sometimes Flowers, and the gardens of local residents.

Can you tell us about the materials you worked with?
Acrylic paint, micron pens, oil pastels.

What’s your favourite style of work?
I love all kinds of art and styles. My favourite would have to be abstract in any medium.

What would you say to an aspiring artist?
You do you. Do what makes you happiest.

Thanks Sandy!
