M. Tree – June Artist Spotlight

Oceana is on view from June 1st to 30th, showcasing works from nine Malcolm Island artists, each exploring the ocean’s beauty, its inhabitants, and the intricate relationship between the sea and our island community. Throughout the month we’ll be chatting with each artist participating in our latest summer exhibition.

Below is our first a rapid fire Q&A with M. Tree!

What prompted you to start creating art?

I’ve always been an artist. As a very visual person, creating pictures and objects lets me express my experiences within our world and lives.

What were the inspirations for your art piece?
Anyone who lives here or visits here ends up spending some time beach combing. I wanted to create something out of a bunch of beach treasures.

Can you tell us about the materials you worked with?
Epoxy resin, lights, crab, seashells, and seaglass.

What’s your favourite style of work?
I like a variety of styles of work.

What would you say to an aspiring artist?
Just make things that bring you joy. Show the world your joy through your work and others will see that too.

Thanks M. Tree!
